Your Oriental & Wool Area Rugs are beautiful works of art. They are also valuable investments. Because Oriental Rugs are constructed differently than wall to wall carpeting, they should not be cleaned by the same method.
Oriental area rug cleaning (rug washing) is a completely different process than carpet cleaning. The process is much more time consuming and requires a purpose built facility to do the work correctly. A Clean Solution has recently built our Rug Spa designed to pamper your wool & oriental rugs. The facility has an examination area, a dry soil removal station, a wash station, a drying chamber and a detailing area. Because we don't have any of these resources available to us while out on calls, proper oriental rug cleaning can not be performed at the clients location.
The only way to effectively deep clean the heavy pile of an oriental rug is to have them cleaned by a professional In Plant process that includes dry soil removal (dusting) and a thorough flushing with water.
Note: All rugs that come into out shop are individually hand washed. Other oriental rug cleaners will put your rug with upto 10 other rugs (that could have pet urine or mold contamination) in a washing drum at the same time. This is not a safe process for cleaning your valuable treasures.
Our Rug Spa Cleaning process:
-
Examination - A thorough examination of the rug is performed. We look for any damage or special conditions that may need to be brought to the owner's attention before any work begins.
-
The Massage for Dry Soil Removal - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP IN THE PROCESS AND IS OFTEN SKIPPED BY INEXPERIENCED RUG CLEANERS. This process massages the rug fibers to release the harmful dry soils that are compacted in the wool fibers of the rug. Oriental rugs can hold 1 pound or more of dry soil per square foot. The picture below is an 8x10 wool rug that had 22 pounds of dry soil hidden in it's fibers. -
Preconditioning - The rugs are preconditioned with WOOL SAFE cleaning agent.
-
Spa Wash & Rinse - a rich foaming wash and cold water rinse that flushes soils and contaminates from the rug. NEVER STEAM CLEAN a wool rug. STEAM cleaning can cause color bleeding and fiber degradation.
-
Protector Application - Provides soil and stain protection for the rug fibers.
-
Drying - The rugs pile is groomed then the rugs are dried in a controlled chamber with air movers, dehumidifiers and heat.
-
Detailing - The fringes and face fibers are detailed and the rug prepared for return.
-
Allergen Treatment - Optional hypoallergenic treatment to control dust mites and animal dander.
Common Questions: 1. Can we clean rugs that have pet urine in them? YES. Our Raleigh rug cleaners add an additional process that is done between step 3 and step 4. The process involves submerging the wool rug in a urine and odor neutralizer for up to 8 hours. This is done because wool is a porous natural fiber. When pet urine is deposited on the rug, the fibers absorb it all the way to the core of the fiber. A standard rug cleaning will clean the outside of the fiber, but will not neutralize the odor in the core of the fiber. Many of our new clients call us with rugs that have been cleaned by other oriental rug cleaners, but still have a bad odor. Often, the rugs were surface cleaned with no attention paid to the odor problem, or they were cleaned at the customer's location where proper decontamination can not be performed..
Pet urine situations can not be fixed with an on site cleaning. They MUST go through a thorough in-plant rug cleaning process.
2. Can the rugs be cleaned at the owners location? The answer is: To a degree.
On site oriental rug cleaning can be performed, but there are some risks and air quality issues. First, wet wool smells like wet sheep (very bad). Second, without the dry soil removal process, the dry soils in the rug fibers will turn into mud when water and cleaning solution comes in contact with them. This makes the soils very difficult and sometimes impossible to remove and can cause problems for future cleanings. We are proud to provide expert oriental & wool rug cleaning for Raleigh, Cary, Apex and Wake Forest NC and surrounding areas.
