Carpet protectors, are they really important
Friday, January 11, 2013
The answer: YES.
But first, what does carpet protector do? In the most simple terms, protector seals the carpet fibers so that they can temporarily repel liquids and it provides an anti static property to repel dry soils making vacuuming more effective.
When carpets are produced, they have a protector applied to them. After 1 to 2 years of normal use and vacuuming, this original protector is worn away.
When carpets are professionally cleaned on an annual basis, a protector should be re-applied. If protectors are not applied after a professional carpet cleaning, the carpet fibers are open to the environment. This will allow spills and soils to penetrate the carpet fiber and potentially become permanent. The carpet will also resoil faster than without protector and the life of the carpet will be significantly shorter.
